Great Britain and France fought for control of the island fourteen times, with Great Britain finally taking control of this place in 1814.

The island has several resorts that are set up specifically for this purpose. These resorts are adults only, all inclusive and offer many different activities for the newlywed couple. Pools, beaches, diving, shopping and more are all offered by the resorts. Because the resorts are all inclusive, these resort packages are popular among young couples who do not have a lot of money to spend on a honeymoon. Paying one fee gets the couple lodging, meals and in many cases drinks. It is a beautiful and romantic place to honeymoon. While the resort areas are very nice and secure, the areas between the resorts are not known for their safety. Visitors to the resorts on St. Lucia are warned to stay on the grounds of the resort and to not venture out. This is why many of the resorts offer shopping trips. It is easier to ensure the safety of their guests if they control where the guests go.
