Calibishie – The Scenic Town in Dominica
Calibishie is a small town situated on the northern part of the island of Dominica in the Caribbean Sea. It is considered to be the heart of the island, not because it is the most important town, but because it maintains its original spirit and feeling, being the most unspoilt town of the archipelago. It is included in every travel guide that refers to the Caribbean Sea, because of the scenic routes and environment. It stretches from the tall mountain in Pennvile to the exquisite beach in Marigot.
Calibishie features one of the most impressive routes in the world- going from the mountain, through a fishing village and reaching the seashore walking just one mile is not something you see very often. During this walk you go through rain forests, lush greenery and beautiful beaches, and you cross small, lovely villages. Some of the best beaches of the island of Dominica are found in this town: the Point Baptiste and Turtle are considered to be the most beautiful beaches of Dominica – and among the best in the Caribbean Sea. They are tropical, exotic and secluded.
The area is covered by beaches with palms, rivers and ponds, as well as impressive waterfalls and lush greenery. Rain forests also attract numerous visitors since they home some of the rarest types of parrots and other birds.
There is a vast array of activities available on the island of Calibishie. Tourists and travellers can benefit from the large selection of sea-sports, practicing snorkelling and scuba diving.
Since the place is so touristic, there is also a huge selection of accommodation both along the coast and in the small surrounding villages. In most cases, tourists can choose between resorts with golf and tennis courses, or small private villas that follow the local architecture and style.
