One of the most beautiful places in the world to visit is Venice. Of course when you think of going there the first thing you think of are the streets made of water and using a boat from get to place to place. But, one of the most impressive things to see when in Venice is the Bridge of Sighs.

It is believed by many that if lovers walk under this bridge that their love will last for all eternity. As far as places to visit, the Bridge of Sighs in Venice is one of the biggest and one of the most popular places to see. Unfortunately the romantic of the bridge is all in the eye of the beholder.

This bridge used to connect the courts and the prison together. It received its name because once a prisoner crossed the bridge they were taking their last breath in the outside world. A prisoner would never go back to the free world again.

It is believed that the bridge was built somewhere in the 16th to 17th century from the emblem. The Bridge of Sighs in Venice is built out of beautiful white Istrian stone. When you are visiting Venice and go on the tour of the prison and the bridge, you will be taken on a 90 minute tour of the ancient prison.

Be sure to put this on your tour of Venice so you do not miss out on this excellent piece of history. The tour is done in Italian so if you don’t speak the language you may want to find a translator so you don’t miss out on any of the interesting facts about the famous bridge and the prison.
