Burgas – The Industrial Seaside Resort in Bulgaria
Burgas is one of the largest cities in Bulgaria, a notorious industrial city that managed to become the biggest seaside resort of the country, as it gives exit to the Black Sea. It is the second-largest city and seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast and is considered to be one of the most important cities in the Balkans, not only due to its strategic location, but mostly due to the gas pipes that are situated there. It is located almost 380 away from the capital city and 350 kilometres from the European part of Turkey. It is surrounded by Lakes and Sea.
Burgas was founded by Greeks and is supposed to be the successor of an ancient Greek City called Pirgos. In modern days though it became the most important port of Bulgaria, as a great part of the commercial life of the country takes place there. It features a very busy airport as well, which serves the entire country, being the second biggest one after the airport of Sofia.
Burgas is also known due to the famous Burgas Lake that surrounds the city. It is the biggest natural lake in the country and is situated very close the Black Sea Bay, covering an area of 28 sq. kilometres. The lake is notorious for its fauna and flora as many unique species of animals and plants are there. The lake features also one of the biggest petrochemical factories in the Balkans, although much controversy is raised in the area, as the residents think that the factory pollutes the lake.
The Pan European Corridor crosses Burgas that became even more important when the South Eastern Stream – one of the biggest gas plants in the region – was built there.
If you want to travel to the city you can expect low prices and state of art services.
