Austria’s local tourists and hoteliers have been irritated by a hotel in the area that has banned Jewish guests. The Hotel is reported to have ignored a Jewish family, citing that they have had previous bad experiences with Jews that they wouldn’t want to experience ever again. Haus Sonnenhof apartment hotel is located in the village of Serfaus, in Tyrol.

The daily Tiroler Tageszeitung reported that the owner of Haus Sonnenhof purportedly emailed the Jewish family to inform them that even though there was a free room in the hotel, she could not take in any Jewish guests. This reaction against the Jewish has outraged other hotel owners in Serfaus and in many other parts of Austria. This is because Serfaus have in the recent past grown into a very popular haven for mainstream Jewish tourists.

The local travel industry has exerted a lot of efforts in the recent past years to attract tourists, particularly the Jews. This incident of Haus Sonnenhof hotel has therefore been seen as ways to obliterate and bring down the efforts by the local tourism travel industry in general. The owner of Hotel Alpenruh-Micheluzzi, Petra Micheluzzi was quoted telling the German Press Agency, DPA that “One such incident could destroy all the hard work done by others in the travel industry”.

Micheluzzi said that her sentiments and views are echoed by all the regional and local tourism officials. The father of the family that was rejected has allegedly shunned away the village of Serfaus. He is said to have taken his family somewhere else to spend their holiday. The father was quoted by DPA saying that he didn’t want his family to spend a vacation in an area full of racism. He further said that he will inform all his friends about the humiliations taking place in Tyrol.
