34-year-old Englishman Ben Southall became the winner in the international competition on “the best job in the world” and the inspector of one tropical island in Australia. He has been chosen from 16 applicants from 15 different counties who have reached the final. Among finalists there were also students, journalists, an organizer of charitable actions, the actress and many other pretenders. The age of participants was from 20 till 38 years.
The inspector of Hamilton Island should conduct research of the island and water area round it, to conduct a photo diary and a video blog, daily to communicate on the Internet, to publish reports of what happens on the island. Besides, it will be necessary to lure fishes, to observe of turtles and floating whales, to clean pool and to sort mail. Predictably, the contract for 6 months will be concluded with Ben Southall – the winner in this competition. The wage of the inspector will make about 100 thousand dollars. Ben should start his work on the 1st July 2009. For the brave and adventurous Southall, who is a Bachelor of Sciences, this will be a challenge, which will add more special experience to his traveling background.
The big Barrier Reef is a ridge of corals along the northeast coast of Australia. The reef is long about 2300 kilometers. In 1979 its unique ecosystem has been included in the list of the World heritage of UNESCO. The scientists consider that the age of the big Barrier Reef is not less than 18 million years. Till now there are some islands in this part of Australia where a person has never gone. In total Reef has about 1000 islands formed by 340 kinds of corals. Unique fishes and turtles live in the reef water area. Hamilton Island is one of the inhabitable islands of the Reef.
