The job christened “the best job in the world” is about to begin for the lucky applicant. Sixteen applicants, who qualified from the previous interview of 50 applicants – out of the 34,000 applicants who applied from across the globe, arrived on Sunday in the Hamilton Island. This final interview will determine who will be the concierge of the Island in Queensland, Australia.
The job description of the caretaker would be to feed the fish, clean the fish pond and to submit weekly videos and blog reports on the progress and happenings on the island. The job is expected to last for six months, where the lucky winner will take home $100,000.
28-year-old Cali Lewis, one of the finalists from Dallas, Texas, said that she has been doing exactly what the job description entails for the past four years. On her profile in the contest website, Calis said that her and her husband have for four years now been sharing their lives online, blogging and producing videos on a day to day basis. According to her profile, they both run a web site that review tech gadgets.
Another finalist, 20 year old Hailey Turner says on her profile that she was born and brought up in Queensland and has never in her life, wanted to be anywhere else but Queensland. Turner is the only Australia resident who managed to make it amongst the finalists.
Also among the finalists are a TV presenter and a charity fundraiser from New Zealand and England respectively. The winner is guaranteed of a free home, access to all recreational facilities around the area, transport on the island, return airfare from their closest capital city, camera and computer paraphernalia and travel to nearby islands. The lucky winner will be announced on Wednesday, and assume the position on the 1st of July.
