Pattaya – Tourists’ Heaven

Pattaya is a city located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, in Thailand, about 165 km southeast of Bangkok in the province of Chonburi. The city is the center of the Pattaya-Chonburi Metropolitan Area. Because it is now on the coast of a gulf, we can guess that it was a fishing village. It is a relative new city, dating from the 1960s, when it was discovered. The city is a self-administrating municipality. A negative aspect of the city is that the rapid growth of economy, especially the tourism, has brought pollution and crime.

Pattaya covers an area of over 20 square kilometers and has a population of over 100 000 people, leading to a high density of people of almost 5000 souls / square kilometer. The city is a municipal area which covers many regions like Nong Prue and Na Kluea. Pattaya’s weather is a bit strange. It has 3 “seasons”: the first one is warm and dry (from November to February), the second one is hot and humid (from March to May), and the third one is hot and rainy (from June to October).

If you are a tourist, you would surely like to visit the beaches like: the Pattaya Beach and the Jomtien Beach. A great attraction is always the islands, too, like Mu Ko Lan (The “Near Islands”), Mu Ko Phai (The “Far Islands”) or Ko Lan (the “Coral Island”). People go there by scuba diving. The city lies 120 km from the Suvarnabhumi Airport and about 50 kilometers from the U-Tapao International Airport.

The economy of the city is based mainly on tourism. You can visit many places like: Underwater World and Sanctuary of Truth. You can go for bungee jumping, horse riding, or if you want something more relaxing you can go shopping at Central Center Pattaya. Also, there are many events and festivals that you can go to.

One Response to “Pattaya”

  1. Been to Pattaya City a couple of times now, first time was in February 2005, then back at Christmas 2007. What a great holiday spot! It caters for everyone: if your searching for nice locals there is plenty of them, if your looking for solid thai food there is quite a little and nightlife is brilliant. If you want a affordable holiday, you can have it – if you desire a pricey holiday, you can have it also. My friend is really in love with the place and has just bought into a bar over there. My children love it too. What a wonderful place to celebrate New Year!
