Andorra Park Hotel: A Rustic Hotel in Ancient Andorra la Vella

Andorra Park Hotel

The Andorra Park Hotel is in Andorra la Vella, the capital of Andorra and one of the oldest cities in the east Pyrenees. The city sits in the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain, at the junction of the Valira del Nord and the Valira del Orient, two streams that become the Gran Valira River. The Andorra Park Hotel rests high in these mountains.

Andorra la Vella was settled during the late Neolithic period by the Andosin tribe. It was named the co-principality’s capital when the French and Episcopalian co-princes agreed to joint suzerainty in 1278. Many streets and buildings from this time still exist; the Casa de la Vall, built in the early sixteenth century, has been the state’s parliamentary house since 1707. Andorra la Vella was largely left alone until the twentieth century, and was not even included in the Treaty of Versailles because it remained unnoticed. After a failed coup in the 1930s, the state began to slowly develop a democracy. This democracy was formalized with the country’s first constitution in 1993. During this time, Andorra la Vella also became a tax haven for other countries, resulting in modern banking offices, and allowing the city to develop the ski resorts for which it’s now known. The city, while not chosen to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, did host the 1991 and 2005 Games of the Small States of Europe.

The Andorra Park Hotel is 20 kilometers from two of these ski areas, the Gran Valira and Vall Nord. The hotel’s restaurant, Raco del Park, serves both international and local food in an intimate setting. The hotel has a pool and is adjacent to a golf course, and the forty rooms have satellite television and internet access. Many rooms also have mini-bars or shower/tub combinations, and ski storage and dry-cleaning are available. Andorra Park Hotel is 250 kilometers from Barcelona Airport.
