Central Park – The Urban Oasis of New York City
Central Park is an urban park located in the heart of New York in the US. It is visited by more than thirty million visitors annually and is one of the landmark areas of the City. The areas that border the Park feature buildings of impeccable beauty and high real estate value. It is established and denoted as National Historical Landmark since 1963.
The Park is preserved and maintained by a non profit organisation and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. It was designed by two architects and exterior designers, Frederic Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, who wanted to create a small oasis amidst a bustling city. They actually did it. The Central Park is considered to be the most scenic part of Manhattan and has appeared in numerous movies and films, as a meeting point for friends, lovers or even amateur athletes.
The secret of the Park is that it looks natural, but it’s actually 100% landscaped. Every single detail in the park was designed by architects and is manmade. The original design of Central park called for particular types of roadways: carriage ways, footpaths and bridle-paths, so as to eliminate traffic and make the leisure strolls enjoyable without any weird congress among the paths. Therefore, the architects designed a series of bridges and arches, which added to the beauty of the park as well as its functionality and practicality. There are more than forty bridges and arches today, although originally there were just seven. According to the officials, there are no two bridges that look alike in the park, something that makes it stand out from all other parks in the world.
Central Park contains a vast array of impressive installments, such as ponds, two ice skating rings, lakes, woods and running tracks. There are also theatres and open air stages that host music and theatrical festivals during summer.
